Moisturizers or Sunscreen with SPF?
There are so many products out there that offer SPF protection in our daily moisturizer – is that the only way to go? Should we double up? Should we avoid that all together? Well here are some tips as to why sometimes some, all or one work best for you!
We all know that prolonged sun exposure can cause skin cancer and wrinkles. Many foundations and other makeup products offer a built-in sun protection factor (SPF). Is that your smartest beauty solution? So in order for your plain foundation to protect your skin like an actual sunscreen, you would have to apply up to 14x of coverage for that same sunscreen protection. So that is out of the question.
You can use sunscreen under your foundation, but that may end up with a chalky or reside look to your face. But if you think that using a primer or foundation or moisturizer that has SPF protection along with sunscreen, these numbers don’t add up. Your skin protection is only has high as your highest SPF.

Here is a recent Women’s Health Magazine article about the ELTA MD UV SHIELD SFP 45 product we offer in our office.
As Women’s Health Magazine states as long as you’re outside, you should reapply every two to three hours, just like a traditional sunscreen. And for maximum protection in the summer, our experts both recommended applying a sunscreen and a moisturizer with SPF. It may seem like overkill, especially when you’re in a hurry to get out the door, but a future of skin saved from sagging and spots is totally worth it.
